Five years ago, Brandon Boyd and Incubus reached stardom with their breakthrough album, "Make Yourself". For us Incubus fanatics, "Morning View" only whetted our appetite and left us scratching for more when it arrived in 2001. Now comes their latest album, "A Crow Left of the Murder", which finally returns us to the glory, headbanging days that we had with "Make Yourself". The anger is back, and so are the melodies and beats that make Incubus one of the best Alternative venues around. If you've ever found yourself jamming out to Incubus before in your car or in your dorm, then this album is a must buy.
While only two of the album's 14 tracks are deemed single-worthy, it contains many, many more that will get your speakers pumping. In my opinion, "Agoraphobia" and "A Crow Left of the Murder" (tracks 2 and 3) are single-worthy; don't be surprised to see a few new music videos soon. While the rest of the album is awesome, I find myself listening to the first five or six tracks over and over again; I can't explain it. There's only one track on the entire album that really turned me off, "Priceless". I've listened through this album over a dozen times at least now and still am not sick of it in the least bit.
Overall I gave Incubus' latest effort 3 out of 4 stars; it's got the potential to grab that elusive fourth star but falls just short. While "Megalomaniac" and "Talk Show on Mute" are incredible songs, the album lacks that one, unbelievable song like "Pardon Me" or "Nice to Know You" that the earlier albums contained. Nevertheless, "A Crow Left of the Murder" delivers in nearly every category and is completely well-balanced for every type of Incubus fan. Again, I highly recommend this one to anyone who has enjoyed Incubus in the past. If you've never listened to them before, I'd say this is a perfect opportunity to give 'em a whirl.
