Miami Vice The Game Review by Raffman, August 22nd, 2006
If you happen to be in Colin Farrell's fan club, you may not want to read this PSP review. I don't know what's worse to be honest with you, Mr. Farrell's acting skills or the fact that he's disgracing the awesomeness that is the mullet in Miami Vice. Well, if you're like me, now you can take pleasure in giving all the body armor to Jamie Foxx and use Mr. Farrell as a human Kevlar vest. Alright, enough with the jokes and onto the review. Miami Vice The Game for the Sony PSP will make you go, "Ughhhh ... ?", but not "na, na, na na"; Ughh as in what the hell is going on, not like your favorite Master P song. You see, while this action adventure title has a lot of potential, it falls horrendously short in just about every category known to man.
If you bought this game, I'm really sorry. If you haven't played this game yet and are thinking about picking it up, let me just tell you that my grandmother could finish this game in a matter of three or four hours. Yes, three of four hours, and no my grandma isn't an 85 year old video game prodigy like Shirley Jones in Grandma's Boy. If you and one of your fellow PSP-owning friends were duped into shelling out all the cash for two copies, then you may get a few extra hours out of Miami Vice via it's coop mode. But then again, I'd rather hit myself in the face with a tack hammer then spend my afternoon going through Miami Vice in coop mode. Well, that may be due to the fact that my friend always plays as Jamie Foxx's character, so there's no way in hell I'd play as Mr. Farrell. No thanks.
While Miami Vice The Game isn't going to win any awards, it does have a few cool aspects to it that make it have some actual potential. First of all, I actually somewhat enjoyed the gameplay, even though it took me all of three hours to finish. Sierra implemented a very cool idea reputation system into the game that makes this game go from complete crap, to somewhat rentable (can you even rent PSP games?). The rep system works like this: if you choose to go through the game in your usual 1980's Miami Vice apparal and only a pistol, you'll score tons of reputation points for being tough and doing it with style. If you choose to throw on a few plates of Kevlar while you shoot everyone up, then you won't have a very good rep. Simple as it may sound, it does give this game some much needed hope.
Is Miami Vice The Game worth the new purchase price? No, I don't think it is. Is it fun? It can be at times, but the glaring fact that it will take you all of three hours to complete will just piss you off at the end. Mediocre at best, just like my Colin Farrell jokes.
