Stephen King sure can tell a story, and along the way he'll usually scare the crap outta ya a few times. "Nightmares & Dreamscapes", originally published as a collection of King's short stories, has made it's way to the television screen courtesy of TNT, and is just simply incredible. This phenomenal new three-disc DVD set includes all eight, hour-long episodes along with a smorgesboard of delicious special features that keep the suspense going even longer. If you haven't seen this series on television and are skeptical of picking it up, let me fill you in on a few things. First and foremost is the outstanding casting that was brought in for every single episode. Take a look at any of these award-winning actors and see if you recoginize any: Ron Livingston, William H. Macy, Tom Berenger, Kim Delaney, William Hurt, and Marsha Mason. Aside from the stellar acting, the writing of the show itself comes from the #1 suspense writer in the world in Stephen King. Combine his writing with these outstanding actors, and you've got a DVD series that easily deserves a spot in your DVD collection.

As I already mentioned, the special features for this title are great. Audio commentaries, interviews with some of the biggest guest stars, featurettes on the special effects, tons of behind-the-scenes footage, and even an unaired extended episode are all included across three discs. For a series that only has eight episodes to get released with this much extra stuff is completely unheard of, and is a testament to just how incredible this show really is. Nightmares & Dreamscapes is an outstanding box set that is perfect for renting this weekend, but once you rent it you're going to want your own copy; trust me on this! If there's ever been a model DVD to follow, Nightmares & Dreamscapes is it.
