Man About Town DVD Review

This past year in 2006, The Departed stood out among other films because of it's stellar A-List cast that had more big names than you could list. There was one other film last year though that had a comparable cast, although it's filled with more "controversial" stars than the usual big names. I say "controversial" because you either love them or hate them: Ben Affleck, Rebecca Romijn, and Gina Gershon. See what I'm saying? The rest of the cast however is simply phenomenal: Kal Penn, Mike Binder, Adam Goldberg, Bai Ling, Jerry O'Connell, and John Cleese. While I honestly didn't like the film, this is just a DVD review so that won't have any bearing on the final rating. Speaking of the final rating, let's see what we're getting ourselves into with the Man About Town DVD.
When you look at the back of a DVD to check out the special features, you can tell just how good they are by the font sizes of the lamest ones that shouldn't even be listed there, ie - "English and Spanish Subtitles, English Closed Captions, 16x9 Widescreen Version, and 5.1 and 2.0 Dolby Digital Audio". For Man About Town, that's already half the special features, leaving the remaining four as bloopers, deleted scenes, and two features called "Visual Journaling" and "Talk to My Agent". I sat down and watched the features, as well as the deleted scenes, and was simply not impressed. Where's the feature commentary? Where are all the cast interviews with some of these amazing actors? No behind the scenes footage? Sigh. Overall a pretty sad DVD release. If you really enjoyed the film then it's worth buying, otherwise this is a rental only at best.
