Hustle Season One Review
BBC Video
September 30th, 2006
First rule of the Hustle law: you can't cheat an honest man. Second rule of the Hustle law: clear your schedule for the next six hours, because you've got a ton of phenomenal BBC television to watch. From those geniuses across the pond that brought the world "MI-5" comes "Hustle Season One" on DVD, starring Adrian Lester, Marc Warren, Robert Glenister, Jaime Murray, and Robert Vaughn. To be honest, when this first season arrived at my doorstep I was a little skeptical because I hadn't heard much about the show. When I saw the cover of the DVD however I instantly recognized nearly all the main actors, and I think you will too. "Hustle", from an entertainment standpoint, is a phenomenal show. It's extremely clever and funny, features suspense that will ultimately make your heart stop, and it will literally pull you in from the very beginning. Once you finish watching the first season though, there's not much else to do but watch it again or throw the season onto your shelf.
Let me state this again just so we're clear: "Hustle" is a fantastic show! The show alone if you haven't seen it is well worth the purchase price. If you've already seen the show and are already a fan, well you may be a little disappointed because BBC Video dropped the ball when it comes to special features. All you'll be getting on these two DVDs is a feature on "Assembling the Team", and some cast bios. I would have loved to hear audio commentary behind each of the cons, and insight from the writer's themselves would've made this DVD set go from "great" to "delicious". Lack of special features aside, "Hustle" does feature top of the line audio and visual effects, and the presentation is very well done. "Hustle Season One" is a solid DVD set, however the lack of extras left me feeling a little "conned". Oh I'm good, aren't I? Bet you didn't see that one coming.
