Forbidden Hollywood Collection Volume One Review

Back in the dizay, which by the way was a Wednesday according to Dane Cook, many films coming out of Hollywood allowed blatant nudity, adultery, and even prostitution. This was the early 1930's, before Hollywood was regulated by a self-imposed Production Code, and it was downright racy. Since that era of provoctive filmmaking is roughly 80 years ago, our generation didn't even know about these films until today with TCM Archives release of "Forbidden Hollywood Collection: Volume One", which features three of those very films across two DVD discs. Those three movies included are: Baby Face, Red Headed Woman, and Waterloo Bridge. Please note that these are not porn films people, although maybe that's the only way you'll go out and pick up this DVD collection.

Okay this collection isn't all that bad. While it may not be tops on your DVD Grocery List, it's a must have for all my film majors out there who want to take a sneak peak at one of the most controversial film making eras in history. While I usually score a DVD partially on how the special/bonus features were done, let me remind everyone that this collection is stuff that was filmed about 80 years ago. These films are in black and white. Please don't pick this up thinking you're going to be blown away by tons of special features, because you're setting yourself up for disappointment. From an unbiased perspective as a DVD reviewer, this is a very solid collection considering the circumstances. It probably isn't for everyone, but that doesn't mean it sucks.
