Chappelle's Show: The Lost Episodes Review
Comedy Central (Television)
2006

One of the greatest shows of all times, final moments have been compiled and released on DVD. Was it worth the 2 year wait, is the magic still there, sadly no. Maybe if this were released about a year ago it might have, but the new DVD offers very little. Comprised of sketches that were made by Chappelle before he took his sabbatical in Africa, we are given three episodes hosted by Charlie Murphy and Donnell Rawlings. It is actually more like 2 ˝ episodes, because one of the episodes they spent more than half of the show asking the audience if they found one of the sketches offensive. The reason that they did this was because Dave Chappelle said in a recent interview that he did not like the way the show was going especially the sketch in question (Pixies).

In total there are about 6 maybe 7 sketches total. Only one or two that you will be quoting for a week or so, such as the celebrity sex scandal, or the Howard Dean segment, and finally the Gary Coleman re-enactment. The bloopers are not that funny, in fact I fast-forwarded through some of them. I thought it might be able to make it up with some of the un-aired sketches, all four of them, again they were good but not great such as Daddy Day Care 2 with Charlie Murphy.
Since Comedy Central has been hyping these episodes for two years now, they have created a monster that can not live up to the hype. The magic from the racial draft and Charlie Murphy’s stories is long gone. Like Rawlings says in it “I’m Broke Bi-ach”, they should have let the legacy die when the show did. If you are a die hard fan that wants to complete your collection then go out and buy it, other wise you might as well just go rent it, you will not be missing that much.
