Being a webmaster and a devoted aficionado of anything alcoholic, I've known about Tucker Max for a long time now. Chances are you've heard about his infamous website, which has basically launched him into the status of "coolest man on the planet", complete with his own MTV special and of course, his very own book entitled, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. He's been showcasing his hilarious stories on the site for years now, but being the ignorant bastard that I am I never got around to reading them. Finally I decided to man up and buy a copy of his book, and let me point out that calling this bible "funny" would be an understatement of epic proportions. The synopsis on the book's back cover says it all: "My name is Tucker Max, and I am an asshole. I get excessively drunk at inappropriate times, disregard social norms, indulge every whim, ignore the consequences of my actions, mock idiots and posers, sleep with more women than is safe or reasonable, and just generally act like a raging dickhead."

While the stories themselves could make anyone laugh, it's Tucker's writing that elevates them from "hilarious" to "I think I just pissed my pants!" Any good comedian will tell you (like Dane Cook told me) that they'll constantly go over the wording of all their stories to make them as funny as possible; changing one word alone can make all the difference. I had a perfect exampe of this yesterday after I finished reading this amazing book; my roomate came home and I started telling him the story about when "Tucker Ruptures His Appendix" with the nurse shoving the wrong sized catheter in his urethra. I'm laughing hysterically as I'm trying to tell him my half-ass version of the story, but then halfway through it I notice he's not laughing as hard so I say, "Ahh fuck it. Trust me dude, it's hilarious. You can borrow my copy of the book; you hafta read it man."

Aside from quoting movie lines, guys love telling funny stories about getting drunk and their adventures with the opposite sex. I've got some great drunk stories, and I'm sure you've got some even better ones. Tucker Max though has us both beat, and his book is living proof. I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is a must-read for every male college student out there; I personally guarantee that you will laugh your ass off. If you don't like reading on the side during the semester, just keep it in your bathroom and read it while you're in the can; some of the stories are a few pages long while some get upwards of ten, so it's perfect for the john. This book receives my highest recommendation!
