God of War II Preview
PS2 (SCE)
3rd Person Action, Release Date: February 2007

Kratos is back, and believe it or not he's more pissed off than ever. Arriving on store shelves early next year in February for the PS2, God of War II plans on continuing what made the first title so successful, and by successful I mean "Game of the Year from just about every publication on Earth successful". Specifically, God of War II means more hellaciously brutal violence, more unwarranted but always welcomed nudity, more ginormous bosses and enemies, and last but not least more violence. Yeah I know I said violence twice, but let's face it folks; if you played the first God of War you know what I'm talking about. There's a reason why this title is #5 on our Most Wanted List, and it should be high up on yours too even if you've never played it.
Since this title is a sequel, you're not going to see too many new aspects in God of War II for one one main reason: if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The development team behind God of War primarily focused on creating an exciting new storyline, polishing the old game engine with better graphics, and adding a lot of subtler touches that most casual gamers won't even notice. One improvement deals with a minor gameplay issue that was simply streamlined for the sequel: rather than tapping R1 to open doors and kick open chests you just need to hold it down. Doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but once you play it you'll notice how much better it feels. Aside from that there are lot more cool violent animations added for Kratos' repertoir of finishing moves that will really make you smile once this sure-hit finally goes public.

Many people have wondered why this title wasn't pushed back to launch on the Playstation 3, and there's a simple answer for that. The development team would've had to build an entirely new engine, which means a much later release date and a possible drop off in quality for potentially better graphics. Nevertheless I think it's safe to assume we'll see the next few God of War titles to hit the PS3, so you'll be able to see Kratos on the next-gen system, albeit not for a while. Let's face the facts too. The PS3 is getting horrible reviews, and the current launch/post-launch library is downright atrocious. The PS2 is still one of the best systems out there, and will be for some time with games like God of War II and Final Fantasy XII getting released in this next-gen era. I hope you've preordered God of War II people, because this game could very well be better than its predecessor. I personally can't wait for this game, and I hope you feel the same way!
