Beerfest Review
Rated: R
2006
Farva, Mac, Ramathorn, and the rest of the Vermont State Highway Patrol are
back, but this time around the setting is a little bit different. Instead
of liters of cola (do we make liter of cola?), gigantic cotton candy, the
repeater, and Team Ramrod we have glass boots of beer, ginormous amounts of
summer sausage, beer pong, and Team USA. Instead of fighting with the
Spurbury Police, the boys from Broken Lizard are tangling with the Germans
on their home turf at the ultra-secret, underground worldwide beer drinking
competition known only as Beerfest. Not since the epic film that was
Old School has their been a movie that caters directly to the college
student demographic, and folks let me just tell you this movie is flatout
hilarious.
What makes Beerfest such a stellar comedy? Besides the obvious fact
that all the guys from Broken Lizard work and act so well together, it's
truly the other castings that make this film a winner. You've got the
hilarious, SNL experience in Will Forte, along with the outstanding talent
of Eric Christian Olsen (Not Another Teen Movie, Dumb and
Dumberer) and Nat Faxon (Kip from Orange County, tons of recent
commercials). Beyond the phenomenal casting job, the mass amounts of
stupid, drunken humor easily carry this comedy into college student Hall of
Fame collection.
Lots of films hit theaters in hopes of targeting college aged crowds, yet
few are able to really leave a mark. Beerfest will make every
college student laugh his or her ass off, it's as simple as that. Well,
unless of course you happen to be one of those college students who consider
a "crazy night" to be a six pack of Smirnoff Ice and a couple dozen rounds
of Halo. Drinking games, chugging beer, lots of unwarranted but welcomed
nudity, and the cast alone make this film one of the funniest I've seen in a
long, long time. Quite possibly, dare I say, even better than Super
Troopers. Go see this film tonight; don't pass it up or you'll regret
it.
